images/s5_nd_3.jpgThe World Cyber Games: Sri Lanka 2009 was held for over 6 days spanning two regions and bringing together over 500 participants and over 1000 spectators. Games such as Counter Strike, Call of Duty 4, Dota, NFS Most Wanted and FIFA 09 figure prominently among the list with the immediate former and the latter games being a part of the global festival.
The top performers of the National Championships in FIFA 09 gained the opportunity of representing Sri Lanka at the World Cyber Games Grand Finale which is to be held in Chengdu, China.
This year, the event moved in to new territory which was reflective of the immense popularity, awareness and growth this glittering it has generated within a very short time frame. The tournament structure involved a split of the preliminary rounds one being in lush green hills of Kandy and the other in the buzzing capital city of Colombo.
The first regional preliminary rounds held at Kandy was the first time a competition based of video games was held in the region, which was greatly appreciated by all the avid gamers of the area. The second regional preliminary was held in Colombo at the Old Game Zone in Excel World, which was also abuzz with multitudes of local gamers who were vastly outnumbered by spectators.
The National Finals were a true reflection of the survival of the fittest where the best teams and players of the country fought each other in epic battles for ultimate victory.
The tension and atmosphere was electrifying with the spectators showcasing their support to their respective clan members at fever pitching optimism.
The World Cyber Games Sri Lanka 2009 was an epic success, and was indeed the largest and best cyber gaming competition in the island in history
